A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE AT THE WORKPLACE
We are all aware of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Nowadays, when we spend a lot of time at work and the pace of life is faster than ever, we all feel the lack of time. That’s why today we’re going to refresh your memory and talk about little tricks and techniques that will help you feel better overall.
Stress, improper diet, lack of time.. all these burden us these days and affect our health. Did you know that even 30 minutes of moderate exercise a day helps us fight this? And even better news: you can turn this into sets of 10 minutes three times a day.
What does regular moderate recreation help with? Coping with stress, increasing the body’s metabolism (3-6x the level in contrast to rest), strengthens bones and muscles, maintains the psychophysical and functional abilities of the body, helps to reduce stress and depression, and helps to strengthen self-esteem. In combination with adequate nutrition, physical activity also protects against being overweight and obesity.
Therefore, next time you go to work, choose a bicycle or park in a more distant place and walk. Choose the stairs instead of the elevator, take a stroll to lunch and get up several times a day and take a few steps. Even small changes like these can help your health in the long run.
What about mental health? You may not realize it, but mental health is a key component of overall health. And this is precisely what suffers the most in the workplace. Everyday stress, pressure, very long working days… all this affects your psychophysical well-being. That’s why it’s important to separate work and private time. How do you do that?
- Create separate to-do lists
- Determine the hours of the day when you can be reached by email and phone (if your workplace allows it)
- Communicate these hours to colleagues and superiors
- Separate private and work email and phone numbers
- If you work from home or at home, set aside a specific place for this (desk, room) and perform work duties only in this place. Do not e.g. work in bed, as it’s intended for rest and relaxation.
All these tricks will help you to be less stressed. Relaxation exercises such as breathing exercises also help. The one below is very easy to do and can be done at work.
You know: small changes bring big results in the long run. You won’t realize when you cycled so many kilometers and when you took 10,000 steps during the day. So don’t delay and start today.
