Employee satisfaction: measurement and encouragement
Satisfaction is an important factor in the organizational climate, which in the work environment affects the commitment and consequent productivity of the individual employee. While as a manager, you may feel that your employees are satisfied, this may not always be the case.
Methods for measuring user satisfaction
If you haven’t thought about the satisfaction of your employees so far, it’s a good idea to check where you are standing at the moment. There are many methods for measuring satisfaction, but we give you a few of which you can try right away.
- Book of complaints and suggestions,
- “mystery shopping” ie. imaginary shopping: the company hires people who pretend to be potential users; they later report good and bad experiences in purchasing company services and competition,
- lost user analysis: The company contacts users who have stopped using their services ie. past employees, to determine the reasons for leaving,
- focus groups: an informal discussion of 8-12 users and a manager who only directs the conversation,
- internal survey among employees,
- user satisfaction surveys.
How can we ensure employee satisfaction?
Even if you find out that your employees are happy at the moment, it won’t last forever. You also need to maintain satisfaction, which does not necessarily have to be a complicated process. You can start by introducing 10 simple steps that will quickly raise the level of satisfaction of your employees.
- Be flexible and give your employees more control, independence and responsibility for their time at work (and outside work).
- Allow employees to design their own roles and work to the best of their ability.
- Stop micro-management and support middle management. This prevents low morale, lack of innovation, exits and a large turnover of staff.
- Recognize and reward your employees beyond financial compensation.
- Encourage communication and transparency so that employees always feel well informed.
- Promote health, reduce stress in the workplace and educate your employees regularly about how they can take care of their own health.
- Take care of the work environment as small things make a big difference. Sufficient equipment, quick handling of complaints and jobs arranged according to the taste of the employee, can quickly and efficiently raise the level of satisfaction.
- Education is an investment in an employee. Investing in employees with the possibility of additional training, advanced training, mentoring or coaching has been proven to increase their satisfaction. As an employer, you benefit not only from satisfied employees, but also from additional knowledge and skills that they can then incorporate into their work.
- Include a strong, social culture. Establishing and installing a strong company culture cannot be achieved overnight; however, employers can facilitate its development by promoting socialization and communication. According to a Gallup survey, close friendships at work improve employee satisfaction by as much as 50%.
- Reduce bureaucracy and waste of time by developing processes that enable change. Is it really necessary for your CEO to personally approve each purchase order? Is it possible to simplify, automate or help your processes, perhaps by implementing a company intranet system that digitizes HR processes or provides a centralized point for communication and collaboration? It is. Do it.
